Marlowe Atelier, Custom Tailoring + Alterations

Our Craft

Good tailoring is built on observation.

Before anything is cut, pinned, or stitched, the work begins by understanding the garment, the body wearing it, and what needs to change.

Our Point of View

The Marlowe Point of View

Good clothing starts with proportion. Where a shoulder ends, how a sleeve falls, and where a hem lands decide whether a garment looks considered or merely close.

Movement matters as much as appearance. A jacket that looks right standing still but pulls when you reach has not finished its job. Fabric, construction, and fit all have to work together for a garment to stay in your wardrobe for years.

Marlowe Atelier is a fictional Site Proper concept, so this page describes a point of view rather than a company history.

The Craft

The physical work behind every garment

  • A tailor's hands taking a measurement along the sleeve of a client in a charcoal jacket

    01Measuring

  • Pattern paper, a tape measure, and shears on a cutting table beside folded wool cloth

    02Cutting

  • Hands stitching the lapel of a tailored jacket by hand

    03Stitching

  • A tailor pressing a garment with a brass-plated iron on a wooden table

Philosophy

Clothes should fit you. Not the other way around.

Better fit supports comfort, proportion, and confidence. It also affects how a garment holds up over years of wear, which is a quieter measure than how it looks on a hanger.

Attention to Detail

What We Pay Attention To

Balance
Whether a garment hangs evenly from the shoulders and settles without pulling.
Proportion
How lengths, widths, and placement relate to your frame.
Seam Placement
Where lines fall, and whether they follow the body or fight it.
Movement
How the garment behaves when you reach, sit, and walk.
Fabric Behavior
How cloth drapes, holds a crease, and responds to pressing.
Finishing
The interior, the edges, and the small details that hold it together.
